What is 3d Touch?
If you’re new to the iPhone 6s or 6s Plus, you might be wondering about this cool addition that’s got everyone talking, so let’s take a quick look at what it’s all about:
3D Touch is a neat new feature that allows you access to different app shortcuts, functions, actions and previews on your iPhone, simply by applying pressure to your screen. It’s that easy!
The iPhone 6s screen is pressure sensitive (just like the Apple Watch) so depending on how much pressure you apply, that will dictate what’s going to happen on your iPhone.
You can also change the settings. So sometimes you can chose to apply firm pressure to activate 3D Touch, medium pressure, or light pressure.
So if you want to change that, go into:
Settings, general, accessibility , scroll down to 3d touch
One thing you can do here is turn it off. This is one of the big selling points of the iPhone 6s, so I have no clue why you’d want to do that though.
Again, here you can adjust the sensitivity and the amount of pressure needed to activate 3D Touch.
I’ve got mine on light. I had on firm and medium at first, but I felt that I was pressing way too hard on my screen. Call me crazy, but I thought I might break something!
Now let’s take a look at some of the stock iPhone apps that support 3D Touch and what you can do with them.
-In the Calendar you can quickly add an event.
-In messages, you’ll see your last messages and you can create a new one.
-In Music you can search your playlists or play Beats 1.
-In Camera you can take a selfie, take a photo, and record a regular or a Slo-mo video.
-In the Clock app, I like this one because you can quickly start a timer. You create an alarm or start a stopwatch.
-In the Phone you can view your last calls, create a new contact easily.
-In your email, you can quickly look at your email, you VIP list, and you can do a quick search or write a message.
-In Safari you can see your reading list, view your bookmarks, or start a new tab.
-In the App Store, I love this one because you can actually redeem something from your home screen, it’ll take you to where you need to type in your code. For me, it was a pain having to search for that redemption button!
-In Notes you can create a new note or add a photo or a new sketch.
-In Maps you can quickly get directions home, mark your location, send your location to someone, or do a search.
-In Photos you can see your favorites, you most recent and search.
-In Videos you can see what videos you’re watching, and how much time there is remaining.
-In iBooks, you can see some of the books you’re reading, and how much is left.
-In Podcasts, it’ll show what you’re listening to, and again, how much time you’ve got remaining.
-In the Apple Store you can shop or to see where the nearest Apple store is quickly.
-In Shazam, you can hit Shazam Now, while before you used to have to open the app.
– In the iTunes store, again I like that the redeem button is right there, you don’t have to search. It’ll take you right to where you need to type in the code.
-In Wallet, you can quickly add a card.
-In Game Center you can send a friend request.
-In Voice recording, you can record right away. Forget having to search for the app.
So those are some of the stock apps. Let’s take a look at some of the third party apps that are currently working with the 3D Touch feature.
These are just some of the ones that I have on my phone now, but you may have some that I didn’t mention. If you do, definitely let me know in the comments section and I’ll check them out.
In my News apps, Feedly works. Buffer lets you quickly compose a message. Flipboard and Buzzfeed both work. Apple news work of course.
In my Social apps, Pinterest, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Digg all work. Anyone still using Digg these days?
In Entertainment, most of the apps that Amazon has are responsive to the 3D Touch feature.

That’s about it. I hope this showed you how to use 3D Touch on iPhone 6s or 6s Plus or you picked up a couple of nuggets.
Feel free to leave me a message in the comments section if you think I’ve left anything out, and let me know what you’re using 3D Touch for, and what’s your favorite feature.
